NDPP Bowling Membership Eligibility
SCANA has tentatively approved a change in the eligibility for bowling in our league. At the request of several current members we have expanded the eligible members to include children of SCANA employees/retirees as long as the following criteria is met:
- Eligible children must be at least 18 years of age.
- The sponsoring parent must actively bowl in our league (but not necessarily in the same team as the child).
Children should check with colleges and other organizations they are involved with concerning the effects of joining a money league. In some cases, joining a league such as NDPP may disqualify adult children from certain benefits, such as sports-based scholarships.
The league's Board of Directors approved the change of membership eligibility. The change will be revisited at the next organizational meeting when we discuss the league rules.
November 6, 2006
- Change to the Scoring Sheets System: As of Week 9 (November 6, 2006) we will be printing our own score sheets and they will be published on the website ASAP after bowling. There will be links on the Standings page every week so that you can look at the score sheets of all previous weeks and verify results are entered accurately.
- Phyllis Jolley is recovering nicely after having a horse backriding accident. She shared this interesting video with us. Enjoy!
September 25, 2006
The league voted on a proposal to limit smoking away from the bowler's area. The proposal was approved by supported by 11 out of 14 teams. Therefore, starting the week of October 1, NDPP bowlers and guests will be asked to smoke only in the "entertainment" area (by the pool tables) and the lounge. Team captains and officers will help enforce this league decision.
August 28, 2006
The league assembled on August 28, 2006, for its annual organization meeting. The gathering was called to order at 6:30 PM by Larry Blyth, who served as 2005-2006 President. Archie Palmer, Assistant Manager at Anchor Lanes, reviewed the improvements being made to the bowling center (please see August 21 report below) and asked everyone to give him feedback and report any problems.
- Larry then began the annual process of electing officers and reviewing the league rules for the 2006-2007 season. There was a motion to keep last year's officers. The motion was seconded, there were no objections from the candidates, and the motion carried by a majority vote.
- RULE 2 - SECRETARY'S SALARY: Victor indicated there would be no increase in the requested salary this year.
- RULE 9 - TEAM ROSTERS AND LEGAL LINEUP: This rule was modified to add the wording: A maximum of two vacant bowlers will count towards legal lineup. The original motion was made by Barry Mullinax, seconded, and passed by a majority vote after significant discussion for and against the motion.

During February, USBC asked all leagues to participate in the Bowl for Cure fund raising to fight breast cancer. All proceedings will benefit the Susan G. Khomen Breast Cancer Foundation. NDPP did a fantastic job in helping fight breast cancer!
Amount Raised in 2006 = $441!
During week one we had some very generous contributions and received a total of $84. Thank you to everyone that participated this week. We also have pledges for an additional $40.
During week two we raised $79.
Week three brought our largest contributions so far: $183! That more than doubled the donations so far. Thank you everyone! As an incentive, Victor will pay one week of bowling fees for the team that raises the most money -- will it be your team?
Week four brought us our second largest contribution with $95 in donations.
And the Winners are ...
Team #1 donated the most money towards the Bowl for the Cure campaign! Fees for next week's bowling will be paid in appreciation of their generosity.
But we are all winners when we fight the dreadful disease we know as breast cancer.
Thank you to everyone that participated this year!

August 29, 2005
The league assembled on August 29, 2005, for its annual organization meeting. The gathering was called to order at 6:30 PM by Jerry Shadley, who served as 2004-2005 President. Jerry then turned the floor over to Archie Palmer, Assistant Manager at Anchor Lanes. Archie reviewed the improvements being made to the bowling center (please see August 2 report below) and asked everyone to give him feedback and report any problems.- Jerry then began the annual process of electing officers and reviewing the league rules for the 2005-2006 season. Larry Blyth was nominated for President, he accepted the nomination, which was seconded; there were no other nominations for the position of President. The membership voted Larry Blyth as the league's 2005-2006 President. Jerry turned the meeting over to Larry as new President.
- Judy Wasieczko was nominated for Vice-President, she accepted the nomination, it was seconded; no other nominations were made for that position and Judy was elected Vice-President.
- Victor Gascon was nominated for Secretary/Treasurer, he accepted the nomination and it was seconded; no other nominations were heard for that job and Victor was re-elected Secretary/Treasurer.
- Chuck Williamson was nominated for Sergeant-At-Arms, he accepted the nomination and it was seconded; no other nominations were made for that position and Chuck was elected Sergeant-At-Arms.
- RULE 2 - SECRETARY'S SALARY: Victor requested an increase from $0.30 to $0.35 per week per bowler. Maria asked for a reason for the increase. The group agreed that the job merited that pay rate due to the work involved. Victor also indicated he has increased his services, including the free website at http://ndppbowl.com. A motion was made to accept the rule with the increase to $0.35, the motion was seconded and majority of bowlers voted in favor.
- RULE 3 - FEES: Victor made a motion to change this rule so that fees would be turned in by team captains before bowling starts. After substantial discussion, Victor withdrew his motion. Barry Mullinax proposed changing the rule to focus on individual bowlers turning in the money to the team captain, who will turn it in to the Secretary/Treasurer. The rule will read as follows: Each bowler shall pay to the League a $6.00 bowling fee. Team captains are responsible for collecting bowling fees and turning them to the Treasurer prior to the start of the second game. The amount to be paid by each bowler each night will cover the cost of bowling, with the balance to be placed into the league treasury for Prizes, secretary's salary, and any other expense incurred by the League. Any bowler more than two weeks in arrears shall not be allowed to bowl. The Treasurer shall notify each team captain of any ineligible bowlers prior to the start of bowling each week.
- RULE 9 - TEAM ROSTERS AND LEGAL LINEUP: This rule was modified to add the wording: Vacant bowlers will count towards legal lineup. After substantial discussion, the bowlers approved that the new wording remain so that vacant positions be counted towards legal lineup.
- RULE 11 - POSTPONEMENTS: Gloria DeVeaux-Cobb made a motion that the league should consider adding a rule for post-bowling in case of work-related reasons. Archie Palmer indicated that scores can be changed by the house up to five days following a regular bowling session. The league voted in favor of adding a new rule: RULE 11B - POST-BOWLING: If a bowler is prevented from attending a regular bowling session due to urgent work-related matters, he/she shall notify the team captain, a league officer or the bowling center prior to 6:30 and request that he/she be allowed to post-bowl. The request must be approved by at least two league officers. The bowling center shall be notified of any approved post-bowls prior to turning in the recap sheets so that scores can be held until the bowler can make up the session. The bowler shall complete the games within five days of the regular scheduled night.
- RULE 17A - LEAGUE STRUCTURE AND CHAMPIONSHIP: minor correction made to the date (from April 11, 2005 to April 10, 2006)
- The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8 PM and bowlers had a chance to bowl free courtesy of Anchor Lanes.
August 2, 2005
Officers from several leagues met at Anchor Lanes on August 1 to review the upcoming season. Some points made during the meeting:- The ABC, WIBC and YABA organizations merged into the USBC (United States Bowling Congress).
- The Columbia-area associations are in the process of merging. More details will be available in the months to come.
- Sanction fees remain as in the past: $15 for men, $14 for women. Ladies no longer have to sanction in two associations to participate in tournaments.
- Unless prohibited by State law, tournaments can now be designated men-only.
- The South Carolina men and women associations are not merging at this time. Only $1 of the sanction fee will go to the state associations ($5 stays at the local level and the balance goes to the national organization).
- There will be a meeting in April or May 2006 to vote on the local association By-Laws and merger. Every sanction bowler can attend and vote! This is a substantial change from previous years (in which only a league representative could attend/vote).
- The role currently filled by the men and women association secretaries will be filled by a "manager" position. The person will receive a nominal salary; anyone interested in applying can contact Deb Van Dale at 749-9401.
- Please visit the USBC website for more information on the mergers and related changes.
- Anchor Lanes has worked very hard this Summer on implementing improvements for the center:
- New scoring system is being installed and maybe ready by the time we start bowling.
- The roof was re-done to prevent leaks.
- Air conditioning work was performed to improve ventilation and avoid condensation problems.
- The center has set challenging goals to keep lane problems as low as possible — they are already realizing benefits from a more aggressive maintenance program and hiring of new staff.
- Improved snack bar options on your favorite food, including chicken wings.
